Chimney (Tregembo Mine)

A lone brick chimney rising from the moorland near Praze is all that remains of Tregembo Mine, a tin and copper operation that once drove Cornwall's industrial heartbeat. Walking up to it across open ground, you're basically stepping into what was a serious concern in the 19th century - the kind of place where men descended into darkness every day to haul out the metal that built Victorian England. The chimney itself is impressively tall and structurally sound, making for a decent photo opportunity if you're into industrial archaeology or just like a bit of texture against the sky.

It's not a destination in itself - maybe fifteen minutes maximum if you're just poking around - but it works brilliantly as a walking break if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Foxglove Field or Haven Riviere Sands. The surrounding moorland is proper walking territory, so you could easily spin it into a longer ramble. History enthusiasts will appreciate what it represents, though there's not much interpretation on site, so you'll need to do your homework beforehand if you want the full story. Families with older kids might find it interesting for five minutes, but younger ones won't get much from it beyond "look at the big brick thing".

No fees, no facilities, no faffing about - just park near Praze and head out across the moors. Best visited on a clear day when you can actually see something from the top. Go in summer when the paths aren't boggy.
