Frythen's Wood

Frythen's Wood sits just outside Goldsithney in west Cornwall, a proper working forest that feels worlds away from the seaside chaos. There are footpaths threading through the trees - nothing elaborate, just the kind of walking that clears your head. The woodland is mixed deciduous, so it changes through the seasons; spring brings bluebells if you time it right, autumn turns everything copper and gold.

It's the sort of place that appeals to families who want a gentle woodland stroll without the tourist infrastructure. Kids won't find designated play areas or anything fancy, but they'll scramble over fallen logs and hunt for wildlife. If you're a walker, it's a solid pit-stop between the beaches and the moors rather than a destination in itself. An hour to ninety minutes is about right unless you're really lingering.

The nearest glamping and caravan parks - Foxglove Field and Polmanter are both well-regarded - make it a convenient add-on to a park holiday in the area. You can knock out a morning woodland walk before heading to Riviere Sands or wherever you're staying. Free to access, as far as I can tell, which makes it an easy diversion from the main tourism drag. Spring or early autumn are best - avoid August when everywhere's rammed, and winter can get muddy. It won't blow your mind, but if you're based nearby it's worth the twenty-minute drive from Goldsithney.
