Budget a good three hours minimum if you want to explore without rushing.

Historically minded types will want to spend time with the house interior - there's Tudor stuff, later additions, and the accumulated weight of living here rather than performing it. The grounds work equally well for families with younger kids who'll get bored indoors. There's space to roam, woods to investigate, and the valley garden has real atmosphere without feeling manicured to death.

It's free if you're a National Trust member, paid admission otherwise - check ahead for current charges and opening days, as hours vary seasonally. From Praa Sands it's a short drive inland, making it a proper change of pace from a beach-focused holiday. Pair it easily with the caravan parks nearby - Higher Trevaskis and Haven Riviere Sands are both within twenty minutes - and you've got a solid half-day that works for all ages. Go midweek if you can stomach the weather. Weekends bring coach parties, which rather diminishes the peaceful woodland feeling the place does so well.
