Tresoweshill

The walk up Tresoweshill is a proper workout, but the payoff from the summit justifies every huffed breath. This granite peak rises sharply from the moorland above Praa Sands, and on a clear day you're looking out across Mount's Bay towards the Lizard Peninsula - the sort of view that makes you understand why people move to Cornwall and never leave.

It's not a long walk, but it's steep enough that you'll feel your legs working. The path climbs through scrubby heathland, and the higher you get, the wider the horizon becomes. If you're staying at Foxglove Field Glamping or Higher Trevaskis Caravan & Camping Park, this is exactly the kind of half-day excursion that justifies a holiday in this corner of west Cornwall - close enough to your accommodation that you're not spending hours driving, interesting enough that it feels like a proper outing.

Families with older kids will get something from it, though younger ones might find the climb tedious without the novelty of a famous attraction at the top - it's a summit for its own sake, really. Walkers love it because it's genuine terrain without being a slog, and the moorland around here has that windswept, slightly wild feeling you come to Cornwall for.

Allow an hour and a half for the round trip, depending on fitness. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top, so bring water. Best visited when the wind isn't absolutely howling, which rules out a fair few days on the Cornish coast.
