Cart How sits quietly in the hills north of Skipton, one of those peaks that doesn't shout about itself but rewards the effort once you're up there. It's a proper fell walk rather than a casual stroll - steep in places, muddy when wet, and the summit itself is just moorland fell rather than dramatic rock formations. That said, the views back towards Wharfedale are genuinely excellent, especially on a clear day when you can pick out Bolton Abbey in the valley below.

This is terrain for walkers with decent boots and a bit of stamina. Kids over ten might manage it fine if they're used to hills, but younger ones will struggle with the gradient. The nearest caravan spots are Howgill Lodge and Bolton Abbey Estate, both less than three miles away, which makes this a solid half-day walk if you're basing yourself in the area.

The approach is straightforward enough from the Skipton direction, but there's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit - bring water and something to eat. Allow two to three hours return depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. The moorland can feel quite exposed in poor weather, so timing matters. Go when the forecast looks settled, and you'll understand why locals keep coming back. It's not a tourist trap, which is precisely why it's worth the walk.
