Capel Newydd, Nanhoron

A small whitewashed chapel tucked into the Llyn Peninsula near Pwllheli, Capel Newydd sits in one of those corners of North Wales where time feels slightly negotiable. The building itself is modest - you won't be staggered by architectural drama - but it's the location that matters here. It's a proper working chapel, still used by locals, which gives it a lived-in quality many tourist attractions have lost entirely.

You can walk right up and peek through the windows if the door's locked, which it often is. The interior is simple, whitewashed walls and wooden pews, the kind of place where whispers carry weight. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no interpretation boards telling you what to think. Just the building and whatever you bring to it.

This works best for people doing a slow coastal walk around the peninsula or those genuinely interested in Welsh chapel culture. Families with small children might find it a ten-minute stop at best - there's nothing interactive or attention-grabbing. But if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like NightSky Glamping or Tal-y-Fan Holiday Park, it's the kind of detour that makes a morning genuinely interesting. Admission should be free (it's a working chapel), and there's no formal opening hours to speak of.

Go early morning or late afternoon when the light sits differently on the white walls. Parking is roadside and minimal. The real draw is the walk to reach it and the sense of stumbling onto something that isn't curated for tourists.
