About Calder Fell
This is the sort of walk that suits families with decent legs and walkers after a morning's exertion without committing to something huge. The route is straightforward enough, though it does get steep in places and the summit path can be boggy after rain. Allow two to three hours return from the main approach via the lane south of Carstang. The fell itself is free to roam - there's no visitor centre or facilities, just open moorland and good honest fell walking.
You'll see heather, rough grass, and on the descent, proper views down into the valleys around Knott End. It's best tackled in dry weather; a wet day here is genuinely grim, all low cloud and sodden ground. The walk works brilliantly as part of a wider exploration of the Bowland area, and it's near enough to base yourself at one of the caravan parks around here - Claylands, Orchard Glamping, or Gibsons Barn are all within striking distance for a proper walking holiday.
Not a destination in itself, but a solid morning's work if you're already in the area.
