Bryn Y Felin

The walk up Bryn Y Felin from Beddgelert is steep but quick - you're looking at maybe forty minutes to the summit if you've got decent legs. It's not a famous peak by any stretch, which means you won't fight crowds here, and that's precisely the appeal. The views across Snowdonia from the top are proper, with Snowdon itself dominating the landscape to the south on a clear day.

This is walker territory, no question. It's not a ramble for small children or anyone after an easy stroll, but for families with teenagers or couples wanting a proper hill without committing to something massive, it works a treat. The path is obvious enough, though it gets boggy in places after rain. Allow a couple of hours return from the village, including time to sit about at the top.

Being so close to Beddgelert - literally on the doorstep - makes it ideal if you're camping nearby. Cae Du and Beddgelert Campsite are both within spitting distance, which means you can knock this out before breakfast or save it for an afternoon when you can't face a full day's expedition. It pairs well with exploring the village itself, and if the weather turns, you're never far from a café or pub.

Free to climb, no facilities up top, so bring water. Go early morning in summer to catch the light properly across the valleys. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's a solid, uncluttered climb that actually feels like an achievement.
