Three hundred and thirty-two metres might not sound like much, but this grassy peak near Beddgelert delivers proper views for relatively little effort. The walk up from the village takes about 45 minutes at a decent clip, following well-trodden paths that wind through typical Welsh countryside - think stone walls, sheep, and bracken.

Families with older children will find this a good starter mountain. The gradient's manageable without being boring, and the summit offers lovely panoramas across Snowdonia without the crowds that swarm Snowdon itself. On a clear day you can pick out the bigger peaks marching off into the distance.

Best tackled in decent weather - there's precious little shelter on the way up, and the top can be properly windswept. Allow two to three hours return from Beddgelert village centre, including time to catch your breath and take photos at the top.

For those staying at one of the nearby campsites like Beddgelert Campsite or Cae Du, it makes for a cracking morning walk before the afternoon rain rolls in. The village below has a good café for recovery afterwards, and you're well placed to explore other Snowdonia walks if this whets your appetite for higher ground.
