About Moel Hebog
Starting from Beddgelert, the most popular route takes you through lovely woodland before the path steepens considerably for the final push. It's a proper mountain walk, not a gentle stroll - allow four to five hours for the round trip. The scramble near the top requires basic rock-hopping skills, so it's not suitable for very young children or anyone uncomfortable with heights.
Families with older kids who've done a few hills before will find this a cracking introduction to serious Welsh mountain walking. The name means 'Hawk Hill' in Welsh, and you'll understand why when you reach the exposed summit ridge.
If you're staying at one of the nearby campsites like Beddgelert Campsite or Cae Du, this makes an excellent day out. The village has decent pubs for a well-earned pint afterwards. Weather can change fast up here, so pack layers and waterproofs even if it looks fine in Beddgelert. Best tackled in dry conditions when the rock isn't slippery.
