About Y Gyrn
The walk itself is straightforward - a path climbs steeply through woodland then opens onto moorland. The summit's a bit exposed and can be windy, but on a clear day you'll see right across to the Moelwynion range. It's the sort of walk that appeals to fell-walkers who want the experience without spending half the day on it, and families with reasonably fit teenagers will manage it fine. Young children might struggle with the steep sections, though.
There's no visitor infrastructure up top - no cafe, no facilities. Bring water and snacks. Admission is free; the peak belongs to no one. Best visited on a settled day when visibility's decent, as the views are what you're after. Wind and cloud here mean you've wasted the effort.
Beddgelert itself works as a base for Snowdonia walking holidays. It's small and quiet, with the Beddgelert Campsite and Talymignedd Campsite right on your doorstep if you're camping. Several others - Cae Du, Ty'n Llan - sit within a few miles. From any of these, Y Gyrn makes a straightforward afternoon walk, leaving mornings free for larger expeditions like Snowdon or ventures toward Llanberis and Llyn Gwynant Campsite further afield.
