About Bryn-moel-uchaf
This is walker territory, plain and simple. The climb itself is steady rather than punishing - a good two hours out and back if you're not hanging about. The ground underfoot can be boggy in places, especially after rain, so decent boots matter. On a clear day you can see further than you'd expect, though on my visit a low cloud rolled in halfway up and that was that. Still worth doing.
It's the sort of hill that makes sense if you're already in Bala for a few days. The town itself sits on Llyn Tegid, a proper lake with its own appeal, and Bryn-moel-uchaf connects well with other walks in the area if you're keen. Tyn Cornel Camping sits just 3.5 miles away and scores well with families - good base for using the hill as one of several local rambles rather than a standalone trip.
Free to walk, obviously. No facilities at the summit, so take water. Best in summer when the weather's more stable, though even then you're gambling with cloud cover up here. Worth the detour if you're hiking locally, but don't rearrange your trip specifically for it.
