Bowen's Wood

The woodland around Haverfordwest is decent enough if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping sites and fancy a proper walk without driving half an hour. Bowen's Wood is a straightforward forest - tall trees, decent paths, the usual Pembrokeshire greenery. Nothing spectacular, but it does the job.

You'll find the main appeal here for families wanting a morning wander or walkers breaking up a longer day. Kids won't be bored for an hour or so, though there are no play areas or specific facilities to speak of. The paths are well-trodden and manageable for most ages, though a proper pair of boots helps after rain - the ground gets boggy in places. Bring a dog if you've got one; the woodland works fine for that.

If you're camping at Holly Tree Glamping or Quarry Park just up the road, this is genuinely useful - close enough to pop out for an hour without faff, far enough away from the caravan site to feel like you've gone somewhere. It's the sort of place locals use rather than somewhere folk drive from across Wales to visit. The trees are proper old forest, nothing manicured about it, which is partly the appeal.

Timing-wise, go early if you want solitude, though even mid-morning it's fairly quiet. There's no entrance fee that I could find, and no real facilities either - no café, no visitor centre. Bring water. Allow an hour minimum to justify the visit; two hours if you're keen on a proper ramble.
