Head south along the Churnet and you'll hit Cheddleton, where the old Flint Mill grinds on weekends just as it did two centuries back. Brindley Water Mill sits nearby, testament to the engineering genius that built Britain's canal network. These aren't dusty museums - they're working monuments to industrial heritage.

The countryside opens up dramatically once you leave the town centre. Ladderedge Country Park offers proper walking with views across the valley, while Brough Park provides gentler strolls through ancient woodland. From Beech Vista, the whole Staffordshire Moorlands spread out before you.

Leek sits bang on the A53 between Stoke-on-Trent and Buxton, making it dead easy to reach by car. The nearest train connection is at Stoke, about 20 minutes south. Several holiday parks dot the surrounding hills - Rudyard Vale Caravan Park and Blackshaw Moor campsite both put you within striking distance of the Peak District proper, while keeping Leek's shops and pubs within easy reach for supplies and a decent pint.
