Getting here means navigating some properly narrow lanes from Carmarthen town centre, about 6 miles northeast. The nearest train station is Carmarthen itself, with decent connections to Cardiff and Swansea, but you'll definitely want a car to explore these woods properly. It's peaceful midweek - you might not see another soul for hours. Woodhouse Wood rounds out the quartet of forests, each with its own character and network of informal paths. The landscape here rolls away towards the Towy valley, giving you glimpses through the canopy of proper Welsh countryside. Several holiday parks dot the wider area, making this a sensible base if you're after somewhere quiet to unwind between day trips to the coast - Laugharne and Pendine Sands are both within striking distance.
