Bradford on Avon Museum tells the story of the town's wool trade heritage beautifully. The old tithe barn down by the river is absolutely massive - one of the finest medieval barns in England, though it's had a few ups and downs over the years.

Trowbridge sits just four miles east if you need proper shopping or the railway station for London connections. The surrounding countryside rolls away in gentle hills perfect for walking, with plenty of footpaths threading through fields and woods.

Staying at one of the nearby parks like Widbrook Barns puts you right in the heart of this corner of Wiltshire. You're close enough to Bath for a day trip (about 8 miles), but far enough from the crowds to enjoy proper peace and quiet. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs right through town - lovely for towpath walks or even a narrowboat trip if you're feeling adventurous.
