Yewtree Bank

Standing at 535 metres, this Shropshire summit delivers far better views than many higher Welsh peaks across the border. The climb from Bishops Castle takes about an hour through working farmland and rough pasture, with the final approach offering glimpses of the Stiperstones ridge to the north. Nothing too demanding, but you'll know you've had a proper walk.

Walkers will appreciate the surprisingly extensive panorama from the top - the Long Mynd stretches away to the east while the Welsh hills roll endlessly westward. It's particularly lovely on a clear winter's day when the light catches the distant ranges. Families with older children should manage the ascent fine, though little ones might struggle with the uneven ground higher up.

The summit itself is marked by a modest cairn and feels properly wild despite being so close to town. No facilities up here obviously, so pack everything you need. Allow three hours for the round trip if you're taking your time.
