Minton Batch

Minton Batch is a modest limestone outcrop that rises abruptly from the Shropshire countryside just outside Church Stretton - the kind of geological feature that catches your eye on the drive through the Long Mynd area. It's not a major summit, and you won't find visitor facilities or interpretation boards, but that's rather the point. What you get is a straightforward walk with decent views across the Vale of Caer Caradoc and back towards the main hills.

The approach is gentle enough for most walkers, though the final push to the viewpoint involves a bit of scrambling over limestone - nothing technical, but enough to make it more interesting than a flat stroll. Allow an hour if you're ambling, less if you're fit and keen. On a clear day the vistas justify the effort; on a grey one, well, you'll at least know you've done some exercise.

This works best for walkers who like their landmarks unpretentious and their walks unstructured. Families with older kids will enjoy it; younger ones might find the return journey tedious. It pairs nicely with a base at Small Batch Camp Site or Mountain Edge, both within striking distance, or as a half-day excursion while camping at Bow House Country Park. Free to visit, naturally. Go in decent weather - there's nothing here to compensate for persistent drizzle and low cloud.
