Y Pigwn

The walk up Y Pigwn isn't long, but it's steep enough to make you work for the views. This peak sits just outside Llandovery in the heart of Carmarthenshire, and from the top you get proper panoramic stuff - rolling farmland, distant mountains, the Towy Valley spreading out below. On a clear day it's genuinely worth the effort.

It's a straightforward walk, maybe 45 minutes to an hour depending on fitness, and you won't need any kit beyond decent boots. The path is well-trodden and obvious. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble on the steeper sections. Walkers will appreciate the isolation - you won't be queuing with crowds here.

There's nothing on the peak itself, no facilities, no viewing platform. Just you, the wind, and the view. That's rather the point. Go early morning if you can, before the cloud rolls in, and bring something waterproof - the Welsh weather doesn't announce itself.

If you're camping in the area, Erwlon Caravan & Camping Park and Riverside Pods are both within a few miles, making this a logical addition to a wider Brecon Beacons tour. It's the sort of walk that takes a morning and leaves you properly satisfied. No drama, no pretension. Just a cracking Welsh summit.
