Twyn Rhyblid

The walk up Twyn Rhyblid rewards you with proper views across the Towy Valley - on a clear day you can see right across Carmarthenshire's rolling countryside. It's not a massive peak, but that's rather the point. The climb from Llandovery takes the better part of an hour, depending on fitness, and it's a decent leg-stretcher without being genuinely knackering.

You'll find this works best for walkers who want something achievable without needing a full day. Families with older kids handle it fine; younger ones might find it a bit of a slog. The actual summit is fairly open moorland - nothing dramatic, but the views make it worthwhile. On a grey Welsh day it can feel a bit exposed, so go prepared.

There's no entrance fee or facilities at the top, which is standard for these hills. Allow two to three hours return if you're not rushed. Summer and early autumn are best - winter weather can roll in fast across these hills.

If you're camping nearby at Riverside Pods or Erwlon, this makes an excellent morning walk before heading back to base. It slots nicely into a wider exploration of the Towy Valley - you're close enough to tackle it as a half-day, then spend the afternoon exploring Llandovery itself or pushing on to other spots. The hill fits better as part of a walking itinerary than as a destination in itself, but if you're in the area anyway, it's well worth the effort.
