Wyatt's Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Melksham, Wyatt's Wood offers the kind of forest that makes you remember why you bothered to leave the caravan in the first place. It's a working woodland with character - mature trees, decent footpaths, and that satisfying crunch underfoot that tells you it's well-maintained. The canopy does its job too, which means even on drizzly Wiltshire days you're reasonably protected.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a destination attraction with bells and whistles, but rather the sort of place you fit in between other things or use for a proper hour-long ramble if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Devizes Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Piccadilly Caravan Park. Families with younger kids might find it a bit straightforward after 45 minutes unless they're the type who get excited about sticks and fungi, which fair enough, plenty do.

Bring good boots - woodland floors can be boggy even when the surface looks dry. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so plan accordingly. Spring's when it really earns its place on your itinerary; bluebells transform it into something genuinely worth the detour. Summer's perfectly pleasant too, though you'll want to avoid peak holiday weekends when Melksham gets busy.

If you're based at Mill Farm Glamping or Little Thornham Holidays, this slots in nicely as a morning walk before heading elsewhere in the region. It won't change your life, but it will give you a decent break from the holiday park routine.
