WWII RAF building

The old RAF station outside Oban is one of those places that rewards curiosity more than it rewards casual dropping-by. Built during the Second World War, the buildings stand as a reminder of Scotland's role in the aerial defence of Britain - functional, austere, and honestly rather moving once you understand what happened here.

You're looking at original wartime structures, though the site has changed hands and purposes several times since 1945. Some buildings remain intact; others are less obviously preserved. It's the kind of place where you need to do a bit of homework beforehand - there's no visitor centre, no signage explaining the story, no cafe. That's partly what makes it genuine, but it also means turning up cold and expecting a polished experience will disappoint.
