Druim Mòr

The walk up Druim Mòr from Oban takes you straight into proper Highland terrain - steep, rocky, and absolutely relentless in places. It's not a long climb in distance terms, but the gradient means most people will be breathing hard by the time they reach the summit. The views across the Firth of Lorn and toward the islands make it worth every sweaty step, though.

This one's for walkers who don't mind a bit of graft. Kids can do it if they're used to hills, but younger ones might struggle with the scramble sections. The ridge itself offers cracking 360-degree views: you can pick out Mull, Lismore, and on a clear day, Ben Cruachan in the distance. Allow two to three hours return, depending on fitness.

There's nothing to pay and no facilities up there, so bring water and decent boots. The weather rolls in fast on Scottish peaks, so check conditions before you go - afternoon mist can kill the view entirely. Early morning or late afternoon usually offers clearer skies.

If you're based at Oban Holiday Park or staying nearby, Druim Mòr works well as a morning outing, leaving afternoons free for exploring Oban itself or heading out to the islands. It's close enough to squeeze in even if you've only got half a day, but serious enough to feel like a proper hill walk rather than a park stroll.
