Worthy Hill

The walk up Worthy Hill from Clitheroe takes about forty minutes if you're not dawdling, and the effort pays off properly. You get moorland views across the Ribble Valley, and on a clear day the Pennines roll out in front of you like someone's drawn them in. It's not dramatic - nothing like the Lake District fells - but there's a quiet satisfaction to standing up there watching the light change across the fields below.

This is walker territory, full stop. The path's straightforward enough for anyone reasonably fit, though it gets steep in patches and muddy after rain. Kids will either love the freedom of the moorland or complain within twenty minutes - depends on the child. You're looking at two to three hours if you want to linger at the top with a flask.

The nearest camping and glamping is Hedgerow, just 2.4 miles away, or Peaks and Pods at 3.4 miles, both proper close to Clitheroe town itself. If you're basing yourself at Holgates Ribble Valley or Parkdean Resorts Todber Valley - both are about five miles out - Worthy Hill fits nicely into a morning before heading elsewhere in the valley. It's the sort of place you do rather than spend half a day, but it clears your head after being on a caravan site. No facilities at the summit, so bring water and something to eat.
