Willy Howe Mound

A Bronze Age burial mound rising unexpectedly from the flat Yorkshire Wolds landscape near Scarborough, Willy Howe is one of those places that stops you mid-walk. The mound itself is roughly forty feet high - substantial enough to command views across the surrounding farmland once you've climbed it, though the actual summit can be a bit muddy depending on weather.

It's genuinely worth the short detour if you're walking the Wolds, which this sits perfectly within. The views aren't dramatic - you're looking out over gentle, rolling countryside rather than dramatic vistas - but there's something rather satisfying about standing on a burial site that's been here for over three thousand years. The climb takes five minutes, maybe ten if you're taking it slowly.

History enthusiasts will get more from this than families with young children, frankly. There's no interpretation board, no café, nothing to actually do once you've reached the top beyond stand there and feel the age of it. That said, if you're camping at Humble Bee Farm Glamping or staying at Yorkshire Wolds Glamping, it's close enough for a morning walk without making a special trip out.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted - it's accessible year-round, though summer's obviously more pleasant underfoot. Allow an hour total if you're making a proper walk of it rather than just popping up and back down. It works best as part of a broader Wolds ramble rather than a destination in itself.
