Wet Cave

The walk down to Wet Cave near Settle is half the appeal. You're descending into a limestone gorge with the beck running alongside, and there's genuine drama to it - steep enough that you'll feel your calves on the way back up. The cave itself is modest in size but atmospheric, with water flowing through it year-round, which explains the name. It's a working stream passage rather than a vast cathedral of stone, so manage expectations on that front.

This is squarely for walkers and families with curious kids, not coach parties. You'll spend maybe 45 minutes here including the scramble down and back. The real magic is the route itself - you're moving through proper Yorkshire limestone country, and the sense of discovery feels genuine rather than touristy. Wear decent boots; it gets slippery when wet, and given the water involvement, "when wet" is frequent.

There's no admission charge and no facilities on site, so bring what you need. The nearest town of Settle is a short drive away and has decent cafes for afterwards. If you're based at Peaks and Pods or Orcaber Farm Caravan & Camping Park - both excellent spots for a Yorkshire holiday - this makes a solid half-day outing. Combine it with other walks in the Settle area rather than treating it as a destination in itself. Go early to avoid weekend crowds funnelling down the same narrow paths.
