About Wern Ifor Wood
It's ideal for families who want a proper walk without the crowds you'd get at bigger attractions, and walkers appreciate it as a genuine forest rather than a park with neat paths. The wood works especially well in autumn when the canopy turns proper golden. Bring wellies though - it holds moisture, and after rain the paths become bog-like.
Allow a couple of hours for a decent circuit. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so take what you need with you. The wood appears to be free access, though you should stick to marked routes out of respect.
If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Chapel House Farm and Poston Mill are both within walking distance - this beats a car journey to somewhere more famous. It's the sort of place you'll return to when you want woodland quiet without travelling to the Forest of Dean. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but not a reason to plan a trip around.
