Families with young children might find the museum bit slow, but older kids who've got any interest in archaeology will be properly engaged.

The location between Glenrothes and the coast puts it within striking distance of several caravan parks - Leven Beach is closest at 4.4 miles, which makes logical sense if you're basing yourself in the area. The caves themselves demand a low tide and decent weather, so don't treat this as a quick afternoon detour. Allow a good three hours minimum if you're doing the museum plus a cave visit. Spring and autumn tend to work better than peak summer when paths get rammed.
