Warnicombe Plantation

The walk through Warnicombe Plantation is quietly brilliant if you're basing yourself near Tiverton and want to stretch your legs without the tourist crush. It's a proper woodland - dense conifers mixed with broadleaf trees, the kind of place where the light filters through in soft stripes and the forest floor is thick with needles and moss.

There's something calming about it, honestly. No dramatic viewpoints or Instagram moments, just the sound of your boots on the path and the occasional bird call cutting through. Good for families with kids who'll burn off energy without needing entertainment stations every ten metres. Walkers appreciate it too - you can easily spend an hour or two exploring the different trails without feeling herded.

The plantation sits conveniently close to Tiverton if you're staying at Nirvana Glamping or camping elsewhere in the area. It's the sort of place that fills a rainy afternoon nicely or serves as a morning warm-up before heading elsewhere. Not one of those attractions you'd drive halfway across Devon for, but if you're already local, it's well worth knowing about.

I'd suggest going early if you can - the woods feel less crowded and somehow more yours. Allow at least ninety minutes if you want to see more than just the main route. Check conditions after heavy rain, as it can get a bit muddy underfoot.
