Huntsham Wood

Dense woodland that actually rewards a proper explore rather than a quick drive-through. Huntsham Wood sits just outside Tiverton and offers the sort of quiet forest walk you don't often find in Devon anymore - no tea rooms, no gift shops, just trees and paths. It's managed woodland with a mix of conifers and broadleaf, so there's decent variety underfoot and enough shade even on warm days.

Walkers will get the most from this place. The paths aren't signposted to death, which means you need a bit of map sense, but that's rather the point. A solid hour gets you round the main routes, though you can easily stretch it to two if you're moving slowly or stopping often. The ground can be muddy in places - Devon being Devon - so proper footwear matters.

Families with young kids might find it a touch dull after 45 minutes unless they're the type to get excited about spotting birds or identifying trees. It's not a destination in itself, more a decent leg-stretcher between other Tiverton attractions. Given the proximity to Nirvana Glamping and Waterrow Touring Park, it's an easy morning activity if you're based at either site. Free to access, no visitor centre or facilities, so bring water and don't expect anywhere to sit down. Best in spring when the woodland floor comes alive, or autumn when the light filters through properly.
