Wadhead Hill

The walk up Wadhead Hill takes you out of Grange-over-Sands into proper fell country, though it's nothing like the dramatic peaks further north. You're looking at a modest climb - steep enough to get the heart going, but nothing that demands fell boots or a dawn start. The route itself is straightforward, mostly clear underfoot once you've left the town behind.

From the top, you get views across Morecambe Bay that genuinely reward the effort. On a clear day you can see right across to the Lakeland fells beyond. It's not a destination that'll hold your attention all afternoon - most people spend an hour up here taking in the view, maybe having a flask of tea - but it's exactly the sort of walk that makes sense if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks. Old Park Wood and Haven Lakeland Leisure are both within striking distance, and Willow Tree too, so it works well as a half-day excursion when the weather's playing ball.

Walkers will appreciate it as a leg-stretcher rather than a serious undertaking. Families with reasonable fitness will find it manageable. The main thing is checking the weather before you head out - the view only works if you can actually see something. Head up mid-morning and you'll have the fell mostly to yourself.
