Vinnetrow Lake

A shallow freshwater lake just outside Chichester, Vinnetrow Lake is the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss. It's modest - not dramatic, not particularly large - but there's something genuinely peaceful about it. You can walk round the perimeter, watch the waterbirds, and actually hear yourself think, which counts for a lot in this corner of West Sussex.

The lake works best for birdwatchers and anyone after a gentle stroll rather than a destination in itself. Bring binoculars if you're serious about spotting something; the reedy margins attract all sorts. It's the kind of walk that takes forty minutes and leaves you properly settled. Free, I'd assume, though there's no information about it being formally managed. It won't blow your mind, but it's a proper little local treasure if you're after something genuinely restful rather than touristy.
