Viewpoint - near Ford Moss

The walk up to Ford Moss viewpoint is brief but proper rewarding. You're looking across the Cheviot Hills here, all rolling moorland and distant ridges - the sort of view that makes you understand why people bothered living in this corner of Northumberland in the first place. The viewpoint itself is modest, no fancy infrastructure, just a spot where the landscape opens up and the wind hits you properly.

It's genuinely worth the short detour if you're based around Wooler. The walk takes maybe thirty minutes return, depending on fitness, and you'll see the valley spread below you like an old map. On clear days you can pick out features for miles - farms, forestry blocks, the shapes of the higher ground beyond. Come late afternoon and the light gets lovely across the moorland.

This isn't a destination in itself, but rather a cracking addition to a moorland walk in the area. Families with younger kids might find it a bit of a slog uphill for what amounts to a twenty-minute stop, though teenagers usually find the views decent enough to make the effort worthwhile. Serious walkers will treat it as a waypoint on a longer loop.

If you're staying at Highburn House Caravan Park, you're less than six miles away, making it an easy morning or evening outing. Best visited outside midge season if possible - late spring or early autumn tends to be ideal. There's no facility here, so bring water and decent boots. The moorland can be boggy after rain, particularly on the approach.
