View of the bay

The sweep of Swansea Bay is one of those views that stops you mid-conversation. You get the full arc of it from several vantage points around the city - the Mumbles lighthouse to one side, the curve of sand stretching east toward the industrial bits, and on a clear day you can see right across to the Gower Peninsula. It's the kind of vista that works at any time of day, though the light here is particularly good in late afternoon when everything goes golden.

Walkers should head to Swansea Marina or the promenade if you want an actual walk with the view as your backdrop. The whole seafront is accessible and genuinely lovely to amble along - the Mumbles Pier is worth the extra distance if you've got the legs for it. Most people will spend a solid hour or two here without forcing it, and families often park up to let kids burn energy on the beach itself. There's no charge for looking at the bay, obviously, though you'll spend money if you stop for food or ice cream.

It pairs well with the nearby caravan parks - Swansea Marina Tourer Park is closest at 3.5 miles, while Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park offers a slightly quieter base a bit further out. From either, the bay is an easy drive back into the city, and it combines nicely with a mooch around Swansea's museums or the Welsh seaside experience generally. Not the most dramatic coastline in Wales by a long shot, but it's got real character and the light does something special with it.
