The Ventnor Gnomon is one of those landmarks you might walk past without properly noticing - a tall obelisk-style structure that's been marking the seafront in Ventnor for well over a century. It's essentially a Victorian-era sundial monument, the kind of thing that speaks to a particular moment when coastal towns took themselves rather seriously as places of learning and leisure.

Standing near the seafront, it's useful as a navigation point and a photo stop if you're wandering Ventnor's rather genteel promenade.
