Untitled Boulder

A boulder that's been left completely untitled sits in a Warwickshire gallery space - which is either the most pretentious thing you'll encounter or genuinely thought-provoking, depending on your mood. It's the kind of conceptual art piece that makes you either laugh or stand there for five minutes trying to work out what you're supposed to feel.

The whole setup is deliberately vague. No placard, no explanation, no artist statement helpfully telling you what it means. Just a rock. The gallery doesn't broadcast opening hours or admission fees online, which adds to the mystery - you'll need to ring ahead or turn up and see what happens.

This works best for art types who enjoy a bit of provocation, people who like their cultural experiences with a side of confusion, and anyone who appreciates the kind of work that starts conversations. Kids will probably get bored within two minutes, unless you're brilliant at explaining why a boulder in a gallery matters more than the boulder in the garden.

Shipston-on-Stour is your nearest town - a proper old market place with enough pubs and shops to kill an hour either side of your visit. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Twitey's Camping about four miles out or Shire Camping further afield - this would be an oddball afternoon stop rather than a main event. Worth combining with whatever else you're doing in the area, but don't build a trip around it. Ring first to check they're actually open.
