The park spreads across both banks, with managed paths that are easy enough for families but wild enough to feel like an actual escape.

What you're doing here is straightforward: walking. You'll see the river from different angles depending which path you take, and the trees close in enough that you feel remote without being remotely difficult to navigate. It's not dramatic - no waterfalls or craggy viewpoints - but that's rather the point. If you want to sit by water and hear birds instead of cars, this delivers.

It works best for walkers and families with young kids. Adults who've overdosed on honeypot attractions will find it genuinely restorative. You can easily spend two hours here without trying, or pop in for thirty minutes if you're combining it with a town visit to Hexham itself.
