Tulip Tree

There's a rather magnificent tulip tree standing in Swansea that stops you dead in your tracks the moment you spot it. The thing is genuinely enormous - a towering specimen that's been there long enough to become something of a local landmark, though frankly it doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves.

It's the kind of tree that appeals to botanists and tree enthusiasts far more than your average day-tripper. If you're into that sort of thing, it's brilliant - the scale of it is genuinely impressive, and there's something rather moving about standing beneath a tree that's been growing for decades. The flowers in spring are worth catching if you're timing a visit right, though they don't last long.

For families with young children, it's probably five minutes of interest rather than a full afternoon out. Walkers heading through Swansea might find it worth a detour if they're already in the area, but it's not the sort of thing that justifies a trip on its own.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Swansea Marina Tourer Park is closest at just over 3 miles away, or Three Cliffs Bay if you're further out - you could easily build it into a broader Swansea day. The city centre's walkable enough that you could combine it with other attractions without much fuss. Worth knowing that opening hours and admission details aren't well publicised, so it's very much a spot you visit at your own pace, any time.
