Trendrine Hill

Trendrine Hill is a proper Cornish summit just outside the village of Trendrine, the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss. The walk itself is straightforward - nothing that'll leave you gasping - and the views from the top sweep across farmland and down towards the coast. On a clear day you can see a decent stretch of the North Cornwall landscape, which makes the effort worthwhile.

It's the kind of walk that works best for families with kids old enough to manage twenty minutes of gentle climbing without complaint, and for anyone who wants a proper vantage point without the tourist crowds you get at the big-name peaks. Walkers tackling the South West Coast Path nearby will find this a decent half-hour diversion. Don't expect much in the way of facilities - there's no café or visitor centre, just the walk and the view.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Polmanter Touring Park is closest at under two miles, or you could be staying at St. Ives Holiday Village or Haven Riviere Sands further afield - Trendrine Hill makes a solid morning outing before heading to the beach. Go early if you want any sense of solitude. The light's best in the late afternoon, mind, so you might time it for a walk and watch the sun shift across the fields. It won't eat up your whole day, but it's well worth the effort if you're in the area and fancy some proper countryside rather than the busier coastal attractions.
