Tregonning Hill

The walk up Tregonning Hill rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Mount's Bay and down towards Penzance. It's not a mammoth climb - maybe 30 minutes from Rosudgeon if you're reasonably fit - but the gradient catches you out on the way up. Worth it though.

What you get at the top is a Bronze Age settlement, essentially. The remains aren't dramatic (this isn't Stonehenge), but if you're into archaeology, the earthworks tell a decent story. There's a cairn up there too. The views are the real draw - on a clear day you can see the Lizard Peninsula stretching away, and in decent light the whole coast opens up. A bit of a slog if visibility's poor, so pick your weather.

Families with kids aged eight and up will manage it fine. Younger ones might complain about the climb itself rather than the destination. Dog walkers love this route. History types will find enough to occupy them for a good hour including the walk back down.

It's free, takes about two hours door to door depending on fitness, and there's parking near the start. The nearby caravan parks - Higher Trevaskis and Foxglove Field are both within reach - make this a logical add-on to a wider Cornish coast holiday. If you're staying near Penzance or Mousehole, this sits nicely in between. Morning visits are best, before the afternoon clouds roll in off the sea.
