Tower 2

The tower stands on the edge of Woodbridge, a sturdy brick structure that's been watching over Suffolk's landscape for longer than most of us can remember. It's one of those places that catches your eye on a walk but leaves you wondering what on earth it actually is until you get close enough to read the placard. The real draw here is working out the history yourself - there's something satisfying about that, rather than having everything spelled out by a visitor centre.

You'll get the most out of Tower 2 if you're already exploring the wider Woodbridge area and fancy a historical detour. It's not a destination in itself - there's no café, no visitor facilities that I'm aware of - but it's well worth stopping by if you're rambling through the countryside. Allow maybe twenty minutes, longer if you're the type to sit and sketch or photograph. The walk from Woodbridge proper is straightforward enough.

Camping in the area? Savage Glamping sits just 2.8 miles away, so you could easily make this part of a morning's wandering before heading back to base. Birds and Bees Campsite and Carlton Meres Holiday Park are within five miles too, making it a reasonable spin out if the weather's decent. Go when the light's good - early morning or late afternoon brings out the best in the brickwork and gives you better views of the surrounding flatlands. Don't expect crowds. This is proper local stuff.
