Walking into the WonderWorks feels like stepping into someone's obsessive fever dream - in the best possible way. This is Hornby Hobbies' museum in Birchington, where model railways, slot cars, and vintage toys take up entire rooms. You'll find yourself staring at intricate train layouts that must have taken years to build, complete with tiny stations, bridges, and landscapes so detailed you half expect a miniature person to walk out.

It's aimed squarely at the model-railway crowd and anyone who gets a kick from watching tiny locomotives trundle round in circles. Kids who've inherited their dad's trainset obsession will be transfixed. Adults who spent their pocket money on Hornby kits in the 1970s will feel a proper wave of nostalgia. If you're not into that world though, an hour is probably enough.

The museum sits just outside Birchington itself, making it an easy add-on if you're staying at one of the local parks - Birchington Vale Holiday Park is only 2.6 miles away, or The Foxhunter Park if you fancy somewhere a touch closer to the coast. It's the sort of place you'd visit on a rainy afternoon during a Kent seaside holiday, not something you'd plan a day trip around unless model railways genuinely excite you. Still, if they do - and done properly - this beats scrolling on your phone.
