The Temple

Perched on the clifftops near Sheringham, this 18th-century folly commands one of Norfolk's most dramatic coastal views. Built as a romantic retreat, The Temple presents itself as a classical rotunda with columns facing out towards the North Sea - though what you'll find today is more ruin than refuge.

Walkers and photographers will get the most from this spot. The structure itself takes mere minutes to explore, but the real draw is the panoramic sweep of coastline stretching towards Cromer. On clear days, you can see for miles along the Norfolk coast.

The Temple sits along several walking routes, making it a proper waypoint rather than a destination in itself. Most visitors combine it with a longer coastal walk or approach it via the Norfolk Coast Path. There's no formal opening times or entrance fee - it's simply there on the landscape.

Families staying at nearby Kelling Heath Holiday Park or Beeston Regis Holiday Park will find it makes for a decent leg-stretcher, though younger children might find the ruins underwhelming after the initial excitement. The clifftop setting requires supervision, and the exposed position can be quite blustery.
