The rolling hills and woodland walks at Sheringham Park are the sort of place you stumble upon and suddenly understand why locals guard it so fiercely. Owned by the National Trust, this 1,000-acre estate wraps itself around Sheringham town with proper Norfolk countryside - think mixed woodland, open grassland, and the sort of views that stretch all the way to the sea on a clear day.

You're free to wander the network of trails, and most people allow between one and three hours depending on how many loops they fancy. The rhododendrons and azaleas put on an absolute show in late spring if you time it right. Families with young kids will manage the flatter sections without complaint, though the hillier bits might test smaller legs. It's the kind of place where walkers genuinely belong - proper terrain, good maintenance, and enough variety that you're not retracing the same path.

Admission is free, which is rather generous for National Trust land of this calibre. Given Sheringham's position on the North Norfolk coast, Sheringham Park works brilliantly as a morning walk if you're camped nearby at Woodlands Caravan Park or Kelling Heath Holiday Park just down the road. The town itself has the seaside attractions to keep you occupied if the weather turns, but on a decent day the park demands your full attention. It's not dramatic or jaw-dropping, but it's the sort of place you find yourself recommending to friends precisely because it doesn't try too hard.
