The Soldier's Leap

A narrow gorge where the River Tummel churns below high rocky banks - that's where the Soldier's Leap gets its name. Legend has it a fleeing English soldier jumped across the chasm during the 1746 Jacobite rising, a 18-foot leap that supposedly saved his life. Whether he actually made it or not, the spot itself is genuinely dramatic.

You'll find it just outside Pitlochry, tucked into the riverside landscape where the Tummel runs tight and fast.
