It's the kind of place where you can spend an hour wandering and feel like you've actually got away from things, even though you're barely two miles from the town centre.

If you're staying at Rayford Caravan Park or Stratford Parks nearby, this is a decent short-haul walk to clear your head. Don't expect a visitor centre or facilities - it's raw nature, which is rather refreshing. The ground can get waterlogged after rain, so proper footwear matters. Families with older kids who like a bit of spotting and exploring will appreciate it more than those expecting playground-style attractions. Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you're taking it slowly and actually paying attention to what's around you.
