The Guild Chapel

Built in the 15th century, it's a modest but genuinely interesting space with some impressive timber roof work and original wall paintings that hint at the building's Catholic past.

What makes it worth stopping for is the sheer authenticity. There's no gift shop, no crowds, no theatrical nonsense - just a quiet chapel where you can actually stand and think for five minutes. The wall paintings are faded but fascinating, particularly if you're interested in how English churches looked before the Reformation stripped them of their colour and decoration.

Historically minded visitors will get the most from it. Families with younger kids might find it a bit static unless they're genuinely keen on medieval architecture. Allow twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're reading the information boards properly.
