The Bench - Catch your breath and enjoy the view

There's a bench. That's it, really. No gift shop, no interpretation board, no queue of tourists - just a wooden seat plonked on a hillside above Pwllheli with a view that justifies the walk to find it.

You'll climb through scrubby woodland and open moorland to reach it, feet getting progressively muddier depending on the weather. The effort pays off when you crest the hill and see Cardigan Bay spreading out in front of you, the Lleyn Peninsula curving away to the west. On a clear day you can pick out Bardsey Island. On a grey Welsh Tuesday you'll still find it worth the slog.

It's the sort of place walkers actually appreciate - no selfie stick crowds, no Instagram verification needed. You sit, you look, you think about something for five minutes. Bring a flask. The bench itself is weathered but sturdy, and it's free, obviously. Allow an hour from Pwllheli town if you're not a regular hill-walker; the paths are reasonably clear but can be boggy.

Families with young kids might find it a bit of a trek for what amounts to a sit-down, though older children who've got that "I want to explore" streak will enjoy the route itself. Walkers will love it as a rest-stop on longer coastal paths. History types won't find much here except raw landscape.
