Tenley Hill

The walk up Tenley Hill from Clitheroe takes you through proper Lancashire moorland, and on a clear day the views across the Ribble Valley are genuinely worth the climb. It's not a difficult ascent, more of a steady trudge than anything technical, which means families with older kids and regular walkers will find it manageable. The hilltop itself is modest - you're not looking at a dramatic summit with a cairn or anything fancy - but the perspective you get over the surrounding countryside justifies the effort.

The best time to tackle it is early morning when the light's good and you've got the place to yourself. Allow a couple of hours return from Clitheroe town centre, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. There's no admission fee (it's open fell), though you'll need sturdy boots as the ground can be boggy in places.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby glamping spots - Hedgerow is closest at just over three miles away, or Peaks and Pods if you want something with a bit more polish - Tenley Hill works as a morning outing before heading to somewhere more substantial. It pairs well with a visit to nearby attractions in the area, but on its own merit it's a decent leg-stretcher rather than a destination that'll hold your attention for a full day. Real value if you're already in the Ribble Valley, less compelling if you're making a special trip just for this.
