Templeton Farm

Templeton Farm sits quietly on the Fife landscape near Kinross, and there's not much left to see - that's rather the point. What you're looking at are the faint earthwork remains of what was once a significant medieval settlement, the kind of place where people actually lived and worked centuries ago. The site reveals itself slowly if you know what you're looking for: subtle bumps and hollows in the grass that tell the story of ruined buildings, enclosures, and the day-to-day infrastructure of a farming community.

Historians and archaeology enthusiasts will find this properly absorbing, especially if you combine it with exploring other archaeological sites in the area. It's not a destination that'll keep casual visitors entertained for long - there are no reconstructions, no facilities, no interpretive boards (at least not when I visited). You're essentially walking around a field reading the landscape itself. That said, if you're camped nearby at Gallowhill or Meadow View Glamping, it's a reasonable morning walk from Kinross, and the surrounding countryside is pleasant enough.

Access appears to be free, though you'll want to check locally before heading out, as these smaller sites can sometimes have restrictions. Allow 30 minutes to an hour if you're genuinely interested in what's here. The real charm lies in the stillness of it all - you're standing on ground where people lived their entire lives, and there's something rather moving about that, even if the visible evidence is minimal.
